Brio/Wooden Track Compatible Chuggington Toys?

One of the, if not "The" most asked questions asked on this blog is "will the Chuggington Toys be Brio/Wooden track compatible?" and for ever so long we thought that the Diecast toys were going to be.... until we got them and found they weren't.

I have to say I was a little disappointed as I like many other parents had got my Son loads and loads of Brio style track and had loads handed down from older family members, so yes slight disappointment.

Although my Son still enjoys playing with his Diecast Chuggers at the back of my mind I think I was holding of buying all of them just in case they decided to bring out brio compatible ones.

Well now looking at the following pictures it looks like my prayers have been answered!!!

Don't they look fantastic! As soon as I hear anymore news I will let you know ASAP oh and this is where I found the images thanks to Calleyfan for uploading them ;)

  • Laura

What are you doing to me this is BRILLIANT news!!!

  • Graeme

This is just fantastic. Though the die cast chuggers are great, actual chuggington track is a big disapontment. Bring on Brio. My lads will have great fun playing with Thomas and the trainees together!

This is VERY good news! Thank you.

Me being a little bit thick!! Are these available yet?

    • Chugtoys

Not yet but I’ll try and find out when :)

The new Interactive Chuggers also fit my sons Brio track.

  • Derek

Yep, we’ve just received an Interactive Wilson for LO’s birthday, fits on Brio track. I’m guessing the interactive track/new playsets (see toys r us website – UK) and the version of track/playsets for the die cast chuggers is not compatible with each other though, as the die cast trains are slightly smaller – does anyone know for sure? thanks!

  • Derek

Yes – toys r us and amazon have a good selection!

Hi Derek I think you may be thinking of the Diecast toys that have the blue plastic connectors on the front, these are different in that they have a magnet on the front like normal Brio style trains.

I’m still trying to find out when they will be out around the world ;)

  • Alison

If you live in Canada, http://www.mastermindtoys.com is the exclusive seller of all of the wooden chuggington products. How fantastic!

  • Lek

I was just about to spend a small fortune on buying the sets when I came across your posting – have already got Brio!! What a saving!

  • Graeme

Anyone know when they hit Australia?

  • Lisasofroniou

Does anyone know when the wooden sets will be available in the UK ??? Thank you

  • Amyfuninthesun

Looking for these in the US… Shipping from Canada (nearest to me) is too expensive. Any other options for finding these Chuggington Trains, compatible with Brio, and magnetic cheaper/in the US?? Help! :)

    • Chugtoys

      Hi :)

LIkewise I would love to get some for my Son too, but it looks like they are only out in Canada at the moment. I’ve been told to expect them in the UK and US some time in 2011, but probably not before spring time :(

So it looks like the only way to get them is from Canada, I will keep an eye on eBay as some merchants might start importing them or ship to the US and UK.

  • Laura_large

deffo going over to this when released – I wasted £40 on the interactive set which was highly disappointed with – the good old classis wins hands down rather than these new fangled things!!

  • Sharon

I’ve been looking round and checked out the interactive ones, and they’re saying they are definitely not compatible with the wooden brio track, is there any more news on this? Thanks

  • Sharon

Just called Learning Curve as they make the interactive and diecast toys… they don’t have a clue!! In fact after a week they told me to take a bit of wooden train and go and try them in a toy store which is not really feasible if they are a packaged toy. Said it might be prudent for them to test they might make more sales, which was met with silence and repeating we don’t know. oh well…. Any news would be appreciated.

    • Chugtoys

      Hi Sharon

I don’t think the Interactive ones will fit right on Wooden track. Might be best to wait until the Wooden Chuggers come out? I think they should be out in a few months, they are out already in Canada, but not the US & UK yet.

  • Lanjstan

I found the wooden Chuggington collection on sale on the web at one toy store chain in Canada – Mastermind Toys (http://blog.mastermindtoys.com/index.php/post/chuggington_wooden_railway_launch_centre) – I went on the online chat facility to ask if they would ship to me in the UK and they said no, but gave me an e-mail address to contact for Learning Curve in the UK. Within 24 hours I had a response from thier customer services telling me that the Wooden Chuggington would be in the shops in the UK by early 2011 – Thank Goodness!

    • Chugtoys

Hey, thanks thats great news I was wondering when the Wooden toys were out in the UK :)

  • Mrs S Waldock

Hi, Can anyone tell me if the new wooden track system is the same size and compatible with any of the other wooden Brio-type tracks please? I bought a whole set of the diecast engines, a Wilson storage case and all the plastic track sets for my boys when they first came out in 2009 & these have now been resigned to the cupboard as my sons found it all too fiddly & frustrating to put the track pieces together!! Hundreds of pounds wasted & no second-hand market to sell them on, as those parents who didnt buy at first quickly got the message that they were rubbish. I would consider buying the wooden sets if they are compatible with other wooden tracks. Learning Curve seem to have completely missed the point with their concept as my children just want to be able to build a big, continuous track that incorporates & links all the sites as seen on TV. They want to wash the trains at the Chugwash, get repaired at the workshop move on to see Vee to get their jobs for the day, go through the loop the loop etc etc, but the existing plastic track system doesn’t all join up into one big track – very annoying!!!!. Very disapponted as I think this could have been a brilliant addition to any train-loving toddler’s toybox if only the designers had actually spent time working with children to see how they actually play? My boys love the diecast engines, they are a great size for little hands and are very detailed but I just really wish I could trade in my plastic track sets for good-old wooden ones & not have to buy a whole new set of trains to match just because the designers didn’t make the diecast ones a bit bigger to fit a traditional wooden track that is already available??? If I were a Director at LC I would have sacked the whole design team & gone back to the concept that has worked for millions off children already – standard size wooden track (compatible with Brio wooden type tracks) and  simply made the die cast engines bigger to fit! Cant help feeling BRIO would have made a much better job of this and got it right first time?

Hello and sorry for the delay in getting back to you.

Yes the Wooden track and chuggers are 100% compatible with any Brio or Brio style track.

I would suggest you sell the old Diecast set on eBay, you will definitly get rid of it and make some money to spend on wooden chuggers ;)

      All the best
